I watched a bunch of videos on higher powered amp and sub installs and no one has mentioned the start stop feature. Looks like both those part numbers would work well for aftermarket head units. I`m sure this also applies to the 2018`s as well but I haven`t heard or seen any info on this.Īny trim level below the Lariats without the Premium Sony system can put in an aftermarket head unit without any problems but just remember, the dash kit alone to install an aftermarket head unit will run you over 100.00 dollars or more. With that being said, the only F150`s that can`t have the stock head unit removed because it`s part of the CAN-BUS system are the 2015-2017 Lariats and above that have the Premium Sony system. If anyone has some good answers for these questions, I'm sure the community here would be greatly helped. What year is your F150 and whats the trim level?ĭon`t put your trust in Crutchfield because they can be hit or miss. If anyone has some good answers for these questions, I'm sure the community here would be greatly helped. without the alternator running and the high power draw from the amp does it affect the sound or hurt any electronic system? OR affect the sound? My question would be how the start stop engine function would affect these. Tons of normal options and custom boxes that can work here like any other system. Now if you were to power these by an amplifier, How do you wire in the middle dash speaker? OR is it best to leave that speaker and maybe the tweeters in the pillar running on the head unit and just power the doors by the amplifier? They will sound much better with aftermarket speakers in there on the sides and A pillar. That is the biggest reason I bought a XLT vs the bass model. The only kit ive seen even to upgrade the basic sync to the sync 3 (big screen) costs a ton of money. Even cruchfield recommends not messing with it. It seems that its best to not change this as it is highly integrated into the trucks workings. Ill list out some questions and some of what I know.įirst, the head unit. Maybe some one found a link or youtube video that does this well. I'm looking for so detailed expert advice on how best to upgrade the audio for our trucks. ![]() I just have to get it pictured in my mind and then see what sub will work in the volume available.Hello Forum People. It will contain a subwoofer, power inverter, storage, USB2, etc. ![]() I intend to replace my front center seat with a custom console in the future. They fit under the ford seat but look like crap and sound only decent. They were bought to fit behind the rear seat of my 06 Dakota so the boxes are about 0.3 cu ft each. I have two Elemental Designs SQ10 2 ohm subwoofers where the Sony factory woofer goes. They're good enough for the back so I may never change them out. I got 'em from parts express years ago, $5 each. My system isn't finished yet, I have some ford (Pioneer) 6x8 plate speakers in the back doors. We're not talking audiophile stuff here but it pleases me. I think they listed them on ebay for $4xx but I offered $240 and they accepted it. If you want one the best price I found was the "make an offer" button on the producct page at įor front speakers I have Image Dynamics XS-57 which I got off sonicelectronix on ebay for $240. IMO the MS-8 is an actual bargain at the $477 I paid. Full aftermarket could net better results but at a much higher cost if you want to retain all factory functions. The electronics are actually not too bad in the factory system when the processing/eq is eliminated. The factory speakers are the weakest link by far so they have to go for sure. For the standard stereo (standard on XL-FX I think) you use only two inputs, not four as one might think. The MS-8 can take 8 inputs which is what one would need to integrate with the Sony system. I suppose he is paid to agree with me though. ![]() The salesman agreed that they were not great. Their stereos were better, but not worth half what they cost in terms of sound quality enhancement. When I was testing trucks the FX4 and Platinum are models I drove. What kind of speakers did you put in and what did it cost you overall? The standard F150 stereo sounds as crappy as a 1980's factory stereo. Its so muffled compared to my previous car that I had everything custom for the audio. How do you like your jbl ms8? I hate how my stock system sounds in my xlt.
